EXT. MARTIAN LANDSCAPE - DAWN
The sun rises as a blue dot over a serene landscape. Domes and spires gleam in the growing lights. Fast moving lights caused by the fast-moving traffic makes the city alive. On the other side, there are smaller villages, surrounded by green fields, trees, and bushes, displaying a perfect blend of nature and technology.
INT. MARTIAN OBSERVATORY - MORNING
PAN across a room filled with screens and instruments. Scientists and astronomers work in focused silence. The larger screen in the middle is displaying the trajectory of an asteroid.
KAKIO, a wise and seasoned Martian scientist, visibly tenses as data streams in. He turns to his colleagues, alarms in his eyes.
KAKIO
(Worried but trying to keep calm)
Can you calculate again? What are the probabilities?
IROR
Done it many times, same result. The probability remains at 78.3%.
Iror presses a few buttons, and the monitor displays the distance, size and other various details of the oncoming asteroid.
IROR (CONT’D)
However, we should be able to blast it off before it enters the atmosphere.
INT. MARTIAN COUNCIL - DAY
A council of MARTIAN ELDERS convenes urgently. ELDER SINDRO delivers the grim news. The Elders listen, gravely.
ELDER SINDRO
They are doing absolutely anything to avoid this disaster. In the meantime, we must unite our minds. Our technology, combined with our spiritual strength, will surely guide us through.
The group murmurs.
INT. MARTIAN OBSERVATORY - NIGHT
Teams of scientists, including KAKIO, are working on a simulator. One SCIENTIST beams an array of powerful lasers at the asteroid on the large screen, blasting the asteroid off.
SCIENTIST 1
The ninth simulation, with more or less the exact outcome. We should be fine.
Everybody claps.
EXT. MARTIAN SKY - NIGHT
The lasers fire in unison at the approaching asteroid, lighting up the dark sky with a spectacular display.
INT. MARTIAN OBSERVATORY - NIGHT
Cheers erupt as monitors show the asteroid breaking apart. However, KAKIO’s expression changes as he notices a large fragment hurling towards the planet.
EXT. SMALL MARTIAN VILLAGE - NIGHT
PAN over a peaceful village. Suddenly, a fiery fragment blazes across the sky and crashes with a deafening roar. Flames and debris engulf everything.
EXT. SMALL MARTIAN VILLAGE - LATER
The aftermath is devastating. The village is obliterated. Smoke and fire replace homes. Survivors and rescuers scramble amongst the debris.
INT. MARTIAN COUNCIL - DAY
An emergency meeting. The Elders face the devastation’s aftermath. KAKIO stands before them, grief-stricken yet determined.
KAKIO
This tragedy will not define us. We will.
Rebuild and remember. Our spirit will endure.
INT. MARTIAN OBSERVATORY-MONTHS LATER -DAY
A group of scientists and astronomers, including NANHILDA- a young astronomer, are looking at a larger screen displaying the trajectory of another asteroid. The environment feels tense, but everybody is calm. IROR is briefing the group.
IROR
This is one of the largest ones.
IROR presses some buttons and the computer displays the following information.
INFO
DIAMETER: 2310M
RELATIVE VELOCITY:25.9KM
IMPACT IN: 3 SHIELS 7 HEILS 19 ELS
COLLISION PROBABILITY: 83.72%
NANHILDA
We cannot simply keep tasering them, what are the other options?
SCIENTIST 1
Even if we do, this one is going to be a tough cookie.
EXT. MARTIAN LANDSCAPE - DUSK
KAKIO, alongside villagers, plant a few trees beside a large monument. The same serene landscape, now with a village reborn. The sun sets, casting a hopeful glow over Mars.
KAKIO (V.O.)
In memory of those we’ve lost, we look
to the future. United, we stand resilient.
